VMware lanzaba ayer, 15 de Marzo, vSphere 6.0 Update 2. Y como siempre viene cargado de novedades, algunas más obvias que otras, pero todas importantes, como siempre recomiendo actualizar en un entorno de laboratorio y hacer todas las pruebas necesarias, simular entorno de producción, etc.
¿Qué hay de nuevo a nivel de vCenter?
VMware nos indica todas estas novedades para este 6.0 Update 2:
- Two-factor authentication para vSphere Web Client: Protege el acceso a vSphere Web Client usando alguna de las siguientes formas de autenticación:
- RSA SecurID
- Smart card
- Soporte para cambiar el nivel de logging de vSphere ESX Agent Manager: Esta release soporta cambiar de manera dinámica los niveles de log de vSphere ESX Agent Manager (EAM) logging levels sin necesidad de hacer restart de EAM.
- Soporte para vSphere Web Cient: vSphere Web Client soporta por fín de manera oficial Microsoft Windows 10 OS.
- Soporte para Base de Datos vCenter Server: vCenter Server soporta ahora las siguientes Bases de Datos:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3
- Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1
¿Qué hay de nuevo a nivel de ESXi?
Estas son las mejoras a nivel de ESXi 6.0 U2:
- High Ethernet Link Speed: ESXi 6.0 Update 2 soporta 25 G y 50 G a nivel de ethernet.
- VMware Host Client: VMware lanza por fín de manera nativa VMware Host Client. Ya he analizado este increíble fling que ahora es ya oficial. VMware Host Client es un cliente HTML5 que se usa para conectar independiente a cada ESXi. Puede ser usado para realizar tareas administrativas en cada Host, como es manejar los recursos locales, máquinas virtuales, almacenamiento, networking, etc. El VMware Host Client es además una solución muy conveniente en caso de que tengamos algún error en el servidor vCenter. - vSphere APIs for I/O Filtering (VAIO) Enhancement:
- ESXi 6.0 Update 2 supports the IO Filter VASA Provider in a pure IPv6 environment. For additional information, see the Resolved Issues section.
- ESXi 6.0 Update 2 supports the VMIOF versions 1.0 and 1.1. For additional information, see the Resolved Issues section.
Incidencias resueltas
Hay muchas incidencias resueltas, algunas más críticas que otras, especial mención a:
- Upgrading vCenter Server from 5.5 Update 3b to 6.0 Update 1b might fail
Upgrading vCenter Server from 5.5 Update 3b to 6.0 Update 1b might fail if SSLv3 is disabled on port 7444 of vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3b. An upgrade from vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3b to 6.0 Update 2 works fine if SSLv3 is disabled by default on 7444 port of vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3b. For more information, see KB 2139396. - Upgrading the Platform Services Controller to 6.0 Update 1 or later might cause an error while accessing the Platform Services Controller landing page
After upgrading the Platform Services Controller (PSC) to 6.0 Update 1 or later, when you access the PSC landing page, an error message similar to the following is displayed:
503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x7ff1]
For more information, see KB 2134058. - The Windows Installer for vCenter Server might stop if the password for the administrator account of the Platform Services Controller contains either non-ASCII or high-ASCII characters
During installation, you cannot specify a Platform Services Controller administrator password that includes non-ASCII or high-ASCII characters, but you can change the password after installation. If you then install a vCenter Server system, and connect that system to the Platform Services Controller, the installation might fail.This issue is resolved in this release. - CLI installation of vCenter Server Virtual Appliance fails in an IPv6 environment
Installing the vCenter Server Virtual Appliance using a command line interface installer might fail in an environment that uses IPv6 as the Internet Protocol.

- Update to the Oracle (Sun) JRE
The Oracle (Sun) JRE is updated to version 1.7.0.91.
- Update to glibc package to address a security issue
The vCenter Server glibc package is updated to resolve a security issue. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2015-7547 to this issue. For more information, see KB 2144032.
